Dear David
I am Mika Suzuki. Live in Japan
Tokyo. I love jazz music very much, especially Billy Holiday. One day I went to the CD shop HMV to
find some good music. At that place I met your CD, Sex without Bodies.
First of all I was fascinated by a title. I felt something interesting, and
funny. I eager to listen to that CD, so I decided to buy without hesitation.
On the way go back home in the subway, I took out a leaflet
and read poems of the songs. Those were my taste, soon I like those.
Then I reached my home, and listened to. From then on, that is my favorit e
CD. I always listen with my walkman in Ginza where I am working in my office. This CD
suits this town. Such an experiences are so comfortable to me.
I am looking for another CD of yours. I tried
to find, but coudn't. Would you please tell me your another CD? Please send me
some messages?
Bye.
Hey,
A few minutes ago I've got your first CD. I
have already "Sex Without Bodies". Now I'm listening and
writing. Kelly's voice
is devine, bright, shining and foggy (How can she do it?). I hate Trollope, but when
Kelly sings that piece, I could read even Prime Minister. (Now Crazy
Eyes is playing. I'm feeling like somebody who discovered swing).
So, lyrics are knocking me off my feet. I know,
critcs have told already, that David is the successor of Cole Porter. But it is so
rare.... Inteligence, sophisticated humor, discreet playing with literature,
suggestive, immoral atmosphere. What a pleasure to hear so good
tasted sound and sense. C'est tout. Thank You for everything on theese
CDs. I come from Poland (Katowice is my city). Chez moi is night, not quite tender,
but good enough at meeting with your music.
with love
Ryç (Richard)
Ps: What about your latest record? What does it mean
"Unauthorized". Are you disapointed of this material or is this only a marketing trick?
Sorry for mistakes, but it is not my native language.
So many days have passed since the
last news. But I was waiting for "Unauthorised". So... It's completely different
pleasure. It's traveling music. Through styles, climates, stories. Something like
anthology of love
stories from a different decades and cultures.
But, that wasn't so simply.
The first listening.
It was shock. What a hell? Where is my favorite
claustrophobian, urban, immoral climate, where is my music like Hopper's paintings? Too
much instruments, too much fresh air. Completely demaged, I started
scream like anti-Goethe: Less of light! less of light!
The second listening.
Thanks God for Kelly! She's the same, the best, and thanks God for
David's lyrics.
The third....
Suddenly I've got a good smell of pastiche and great sense of humor and Kelly's voice between that. The perfect harmony.
The fourth...
Pearls. "When Kafka... that chasyd's violin in the
introduction and that rhythm of the blues! Beautiful. Melancholy and irony. And
"Still I Adore You" - the quintessence of Dave's poetry.
And now, over and over again. Every time brings something new.
Big band's sound, trombone's laugh, provocative simplicity of "Kathmandu",
vibraphone like a rain.
The great record. Here is everything what I like in DTS and
something new.
With admiration for your work
Richard
Ps: Fantastic web-page. After Dave's Cake I had all-day's
headake. Hopefully I found Kelly's drink and the world wasn't so bad.
